Australian Distributors of SACHYS-RobertsonӋ Square Drive Screws & INSTY-BIT System

Quarterly Newsletter  July – Sept 2011

Taking over

We are pleased to take over the marketing and distribution of the Robertson screws in Australia. As indicated in their last newsletter, Bill and Jill Norquay have retired and we (Rob and Ann Low) have taken over the marketing and distribution of their products in Australia. Please be assured that we will continue in the same manner as our predecessors and you can be assured of the prompt service to which you have enjoyed in the past. We do however ask your patience in the first months while the final takeover is made and we set up our new system. The same ordering procedures will apply and the same website will continue to operate; however we will in the coming months be upgrading it and adding some new products. For some time the old SACHYS-Robertson phone number will be diverted to our new number. We will also be changing our on-line store to a better system in the coming months. To assist you we are listing the contact information you may need.

Colour Coded Power Driver Bits

In the last email we advised that the new colour coded bits were available in some sizes. We have been surprise how popular these have been and the number of customers who have taken them.  We now have a shipment on the water that is due late July and this will include almost all of the drivers in the colour-coded version. Basically all drivers except the #3 will be available in the colour coding from the end of July. When the shipment arrives our website will be updated to include these colour coded drivers.  .

#7 Trim head Screws

In the last newsletter you were advised that the Trim head Steel screws were no longer available from Robertson and they were being deleted from the list. Since that letter Robertson in Canada have released a new product listing and have included a #7 x 56mm(2-1/4”) Trim head screw in Stainless Steel. As an added bonus the new Stainless trim heads have a Type 17 tip, which makes them easier to start and drive. Being stainless they are not quite as strong as the old hardened steel version and some care may be needed when driving them into hard timbers. The result is that we can now purchase them in reasonable quantities and we are adding them to our range. We have a shipment arriving in late July and there will be some in that shipment. At the moment we do not have final pricing but we expect them to be about $15.00/100 which is a little bit more expensive that the old steel version but the added bonus of Stainless they are good buying

Smart-Bit Drill/Countersink with Gauge

The Smart-bit is similar to the INSTY-BIT Drill/Countersink but it has a free rotating stop collar to accurately control the depth of the countersink. It is ideal for deck and finished surfaces where you need the constant depth without the risk of damaging the surface. The stop collar has a non-marking face so it cannot mark the surface. The Smart-bit has a special high clearance drill for faster drilling without clogging or burning. The Smart-bit comes with two replacement drills and an Allen key and costs $42.95. Replacement bits are available. It is available to fit #6, #8 and #10 gauge screws. All Smart-bits have the standard ¼” hexagon shank and fit into the INSTY-BIT Quick-change chuck or other quick-change system. They are being listed on our website under the special tools along side the INSTY-BIT Range.

Postage Costing

Over recent years the postage costs have steadily increased, Australia Post quote increasing fuel costs and other things to justify the cost. Unfortunately we cannot fight them and like it or not they are still the most cost effective (not necessarily the fastest) freight system we have for most areas. We aim to cover the costs of postage without large mark ups but imposed by some. We will continue to use the most economical means of post to hold the costs to a minimum for our customers.
